WDCB's celebrates "Public Radio Music Day" with jazz concert & live radio broadcast!

WDCB will partner with the Fulton Street Collective to celebrate "Public Radio Music Day" with a performance and live broadcast from trumpeter Chad McCullough's quartet on Wednesday, November 10 from 6 to 7pm.

McCullough will perform a new interpretation of jazz trumpet legend Kenny Dorham's classic "Quiet Kenny" album, recorded in 1959. Jazz lovers are invited to attend in-person at the Fulton Street Collective (in the Hubbard Street Lofts), or to join WDCB for a live simulcast of the concert. The performance will also be live-streamed via Fulton Street Collective's YouTube channel.

"What better way to celebrate "Public Radio Music Day" than to bring a live jazz concert to the airwaves," says WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert. "WDCB is driven by our live and local deejays who are deeply passionate about jazz. And we feel it's important to not only present the best recorded music, but also to present the creativity of our great Chicago musicians in a truly live setting as often as we can."

WDCB is one of hundreds of radio stations across the country celebrating their local music scenes on Wednesday to mark the first major national celebration of "Public Radio Music Day." The national movement had originally been set to launch in April 2020, but the pandemic largely scuttled those original plans. It's hopeful that this week's November date is likely to start a new annual tradition. 

"When most people think of public radio, they think of news & talk programming," says Bindert. "But the jazz, classical and AAA formats have long called public radio home. Music gets a little extra TLC through stations like WDCB, which has served up jazz & blues to Chicagoland for almost 45 years. I'm excited to see public radio's musical stations receiving major recognition through Public Radio Music Day."

The first 50 persons to arrive at Fulton Street Collective will receive a complimentary copy of Chad McCullough's newest CD - 'Forward'. Tickets for the in-person audience are $15, and are available through Fulton Street Collective - 1821 W. Hubbard St. - 3rd floor.
