Jay Greene

Host of: 'DCB Jazz

Jay Greene

I was born in Highland Park, IL. and grew up in Lake County, IL and Wheaton, IL. I was raised on rock 'n' roll with WLS and WCFL. Favorite DJ's were Clark Webber, Dick Biondi and Dex Card. Later, albums of Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Johnny Winter dominated my collection, anything that was Blues influenced. I always listened to bands like The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, especially the ones that had extended instrumental jams in the their songs. Then I discovered Jazz-Rock (which became known as Fusion) from listening to WJKL-Elgin. My collection then grew by adding Return To Forever, Weather Report, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra vinyl. My love of blues-influenced music, extended soloing and instrumentals eventually led me to Jazz music. I began to seek out mainstream artists; John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie were among the first. And when I first heard Monk, BANG! That was it! His music made sense to me, and I love his sense of humor. I pay homage to Thelonious every week on my shift at about 8:10 a.m. I appreciate the commitment WDCB has made to keep Jazz on the airwaves. If it wasn't for WDCB, I probably would never have had the chance to be on the air, sharing my love and knowledge of this great art form we call Jazz.

When I'm not on the air or prepping for it, I fill my days with gardening, sports, and barbequeing/grilling. The rest of my time is spent with my family: wife Kim, daughters Sarah and Katy, son Troy, and grandsons Ethan & Henry.

Jay airs two special features every Saturday morning...
- Monk in the Morning (approx. 8:10am)
- Fusion Flashback (approx. 8:30am)
