WDCB announces live radio broadcast of 2014 Chicago Jazz Festival from Chicago Cultural Center on Thursday, August 28!

August 20th, 2014

Chicago’s jazz radio station, WDCB 90.9FM, will broadcast two jazz performances from the Chicago Cultural Center on the opening day of the Chicago Jazz Festival.

In partnership with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Jazz Festival, WDCB will simulcast from the Cultural Center’s historic Preston Bradley Hall on Thursday, August 28. On the schedule for the live radio broadcast are two acts that have been longtime favorites of the Chicago jazz audience – the Paulinho Garcia Quintet at 12:30pm, followed by the duo of Judy Roberts & Greg Fishman at 2pm. Both sets will be carried live, in their entirety, on WDCB, 90.9FM and online at WDCB.org, with audio also available via cable TV in Chicago on CAN TV42.

“Jazz fans look forward to the festival all year and this will be a great way to get the big weekend started,” says Dan Bindert, WDCB Station Manager. “Of course, nothing beats attending the Chicago Jazz Festival in person. But, if you can’t be there, it’s fun to be able to hear some of the music from the fest on the radio. We’re proud to bring what used to be a great annual radio tradition back to Chicago.”

WDCB’s broadcast from the Chicago Cultural Center on Thursday, August 28 is part of the station’s “Jazz Fest Week Live Broadcasts” which include WDCB’s simulcast of this year’s “PianoForte Sessions” taking place at 5:30pm on August 25, 26 & 27 with Sam Grossner, John Wright and Matthew Shipp (respectively), as well as a live interview/performance with pianist Geoffrey Keezer from PianoForte on Saturday, August 30 at 10am, culminating with the WDCB Jazz Fest Jazz Brunch featuring pianist Laurence Hobgood on the final day of the Chicago Jazz Festival – on Sunday, August 31, also at PianoForte. More details are available at WDCB.org or by calling (630) 942-4200. All events are open to the public and are free of charge, but may require prior registration. The radio broadcasts will be simulcast on 90.9FM, as well as online at WDCB.org and through Chicago cable television via CAN TV42.
