WDCB to broadcast select acts from 2014 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest
90.9fm WDCB Chicago Jazz & Blues will broadcast live music from this year’s New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. WDCB will air select sets on three days in late April and early May. The simulcast is possible because of a partnership with New Orleans community radio station WWOZ, which is provides a live feed direct from the festival site at the historic Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.
“When it comes to jazz, there’s a great, historic connection between Chicago and New Orleans,” says WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert. “And just as jazz fans from around the world come each year to Chicago for the City’s festival on Labor Day weekend, many Chicago music fans make the trip to New Orleans to experience this festival. WWOZ does a great job of conveying the excitement and atmosphere of the event though the live broadcast, and I really think it’s going to fun for all of our WDCB jazz fans to be able to plug into that excitement through their radio.”
WDCB’s live broadcast will include several afternoon sets during the festival’s opening day on Friday, April 25. WDCB’s coverage kicks off at 1:30pm with baritone saxophonist Roger Lewis (pictured) of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who leads his own group Baritone Bliss. The set closer for opening day will be the rising jazz vocal star Gregory Porter, who performs from 5:45 - 7pm (local time). WDCB will also carry select live sets from the Fest on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2.
Chicago area listeners can hear the live broadcast both via WDCB’s over-the-air signal at 90.9FM, as well as WDCB’s live web audio stream at www.WDCB.org
