What's new on WDCB? ... with Paul Abella
Here are three discs we're focusing on this week...
Josie Falbo – You Must Believe In Spring (Southport)
Chicago Vocalist Josie Falbo is back with her first album in 10 years, with an all-star Chicago band featuring, among others, Jim Gailloreto, Jeremy Kahn, and the recently departed Mark Colby. They play through a program of standards like Just You, Just Me, Devil May Care, and You Must Believe in Spring.
Markus Rutz – Blueprints, fig. 2: New Designs (OA2)
Chicago trumpeter Markus Rutz is back with a new album on OA2 Records called Blueprints fig. 2: New Designs. A CD filled with mostly original music, but also songs from McCoy Tyner, Frank Foster and Sam Rivers, it’s a diverse group of tunes with a great band, with Brice Winston on saxophones, Matt Gold on guitar, Heitor Garcia on percussion, just to name a few. It’s a really nice album, and I look forward to sharing it with you!
Dave Brubeck – The Essential Dave Brubeck (Columbia/Legacy)
Leading the way as part of the early bird package for our upcoming Fall Pledge Drive which starts Friday, is the Essential Dave Brubeck. A two disc set with 31 tracks that covers legendary Dave Brubeck compositions ("In Your Own Sweet Way"), legendary performances (a few tracks from Jazz Goes to College, Jazz at Oberlin, the Jazz Impressions of… albums) and of course, "Take Five". There’s a lot to love here, and you can get your copy as part of our Essential Jazz Pack with your contribution of $120 before Friday.
