WDCB to broadcast three days of the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival!

April 17th, 2015

For the second straight year, WDCB, 90.9FM and WDCB.org will carry live coverage from three days of the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival to Chicago radio listeners. Through a partnership with New Orleans community radio station WWOZ, WDCB will again mark the spiritual kick off to the summer festival season with several hours of music on each of three days - April 24, April 30 and May 1 - direct from the historic Fair Grounds Race Course festival site in New Orleans.

Chicago area native trumpeter Maurice “Mobetta” Brown (who performs April 24 at 1:30pm) is among the artists who will be featured during WDCB’s live coverage from New Orleans. Other acts confirmed for the broadcast include Louisiana bluesman Kenny Neal, trumpeter Christian Scott, Delfeayo Marsalis, jazz-funk-fusion band Snarky Puppy, and the Free Agents Brass Band.

“The response from our listeners last year was tremendous,” says WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert. “I heard from lots of people who stumbled on our broadcast last year and wondered if they had tuned into some sort of alternate jazz universe, which is kind of what New Orleans is. Chicago and New Orleans are like musical sister cities and so many Chicago music fans have made that pilgrimage to the fest in New Orleans at one time or another that it makes sense for us to broadcast it. There’ll be, of course, lots of great jazz, but also the brass bands, the funk and the traditional New Orleans sounds that give that festival its distinct musical stamp.”

WDCB’s broadcasts of selected jazzfest sets will take place between 11am and 7pm each of the three days being broadcast in Chicago. The festival broadcast lineup is still being finalized by producers in New Orleans. Listen to WDCB and check the WDCB Jazz facebook page for all the details as the festival broadcast dates approach.
