We're adding a new program ‘Sunday Jazz with Dee Alexander’!

April 25th, 2017

As part of its 40th Anniversary celebration, WDCB is partnering with the WFMT Radio Network to add an exciting new jazz program to 90.9FM WDCB’s weekend lineup – a two-hour weekly show hosted by world-renowned, Chicago-based jazz vocalist and educator Dee Alexander. The new weekly two-hour program, “Sunday Jazz with Dee Alexander,” will air Sundays from 8 to 10pm on WDCB. Alexander, who is currently on a concert tour of Italy, makes her debut as a radio host in Chicago on Sunday, May 7th on WDCB.

“We’re ecstatic to have an artist of Dee Alexander’s stature joining our radio lineup,” says WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert. “Dee’s wonderful voice and warm personality, combined with her unique insights and deep knowledge of the music – that’s an unbeatable combination for a jazz radio program! I know her fans and our listeners will be as excited as I am to hear her program every Sunday evening.”

Alexander’s weekly program will offer a range of jazz artists, styles and eras, as well as a mix of vocalists and instrumentalists. It will include the work of current jazz artists from around the world, as well as Chicago’s own world-class jazz talent.

“Creating jazz radio programming for stations around the globe has long been an important part of the WFMT Radio Network’s mission,” says WFMT Radio Network Director Tony Macaluso. “Forging this new partnership with WDCB and the magnificent Dee Alexander underscores our belief that great jazz radio has a vibrant future in our hometown.”

With programming produced in Chicago by four hosts, including Dee Alexander, The WFMT Radio Network’s Jazz Network is heard on stations in 28 states plus Puerto Rico and China. The new Sunday evening program on WDCB will be the first programming from the Jazz Network to be made available locally on Chicago radio.

WDCB, “Chicago’s Home for Jazz,” is a listener-supported, public radio station that broadcasts from the campus of College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. WDCB serves Chicagoland with jazz, blues, news and arts programming. WDCB can be heard throughout Chicagoland on 90.9FM, also from WDCB’s 90.7FM booster signal in the West Loop, via streaming worldwide on www.WDCB.org (and the Tune-In app) and in the city of Chicago via cable television on CAN TV42.
