"Blacks & Blues" joins WDCB’s blues lineup on Saturdays

September 9th, 2016

"Blacks & Blues," one of the new programs coming to our Saturday night 10-hour blues party, brings a new voice to WDCB's airwaves. Hosted by blues historian and poet Doug Curry, "Blacks & Blues" airs every Saturday from 10-11pm, starting September 10th. In celebration of his arrival on the Chicago airwaves, Curry has written a poem that offers a window into the soul of the program.

Mr Blues Rocks Chicago

Mr Blues blew into Chi-Town
with his big, boss rhythm revue.
He had Big Joe Turner, Pee Wee Crayton,
and T-Bone with him, too.

Said I’m just in from N’awlins,
an’ man, they’s gittin’ down…
the Professor, Fats, and Guitar Slim,
an’ Roy “Good-Rockin’”  Brown.

I’m lookin’ fo’ this country boy...
that hoochie-coochie cat,
an’ a back door man they call the Wolf…
Can you tell me where they at?

Tell ‘em me meet for my brand new show.
It’s an offer they can’t refuse.
Ko Ko calls it a Wang Dang Doodle
I call it BLACKS & BLUES

Juke Boy Bonner and Lightnin’ Slim
will stop by when they can.
Lightnin’ Hopkins and ba-a-a-d Johnny Lee…
that Detroit Boogie Man.

Now, I’m Mr Blues and I don’t need to brag.
I done rocked ‘em up and down the line.
From a Houston jump to a New York slow drag,
if I play it,  you know it’s fine.

You don’t need no ticket to come in here;
just bring yo’ dancin’ shoes.
Sat’day night at 10:00
I’ll be rockin’ BLACKS & BLUES!
