Victor Parra is retiring
The legendary Victor Parra, who has shared his deep knowledge and love of Afro-Cuban jazz with Chicago radio listeners for so many years, is retiring. Parra's Sunday afternoon “Mambo Express” program is a favorite of many WDCB listeners.
Before joining us here at WDCB in 2004, Parra hosted the “Mambo Express” at WBEZ for more than 15 years. He’s also co-led the “Mambo Express” band with his wife Connie (pictured here in the WDCB studios with Victor in 2015) for several decades. Before he began hosting a radio program, Parra owned his own record store, VP Records, in Wicker Park. He's spent his life spreading his love of this music and is truly one of a kind!
The last regular broadcast of the “Mambo Express” will take place Sunday, December 31, from 4 - 6pm. We thank and congratulate Victor Parra for his incredible dedication and especially for all of his years of excellent radio work here at WDCB. We love you Victor!
