Cantigny Jazz & Wine Fest Preview!

June 12th, 2023

The first-ever Cantigny Jazz & Wine Fest – presented by WDCB and Cantigny Park – is launching in a big way with an incredible lineup of talent.  Join us on Sunday, June 18 - Father’s Day! There’ll be wine to sample and six hours of great music, with five excellent acts on two stages, all in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Here’s a look at the music…

The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra will be joined by star vocalist Vanessa Rubin for the headlining set. While the great Count Basie (1904 – 1984) has been gone for nearly 40 years, this band has never sounded or acted like a typical “ghost band.” The band is filled with top-flight veterans and still creates and records new music that carries the tradition forward. Led in 2023 by acclaimed trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, the “Basie Band” still swings hard and rocks bandstands around the world. They’ll be joined at Cantigny by the elegant and soulful guest vocalist Vanessa Rubin, an international jazz star in her own right.

Three of the Chicago jazz scene’s finest jazz musicians will each lead their own bands; saxophonist Frank Catalano, vibraphonist Thaddeus Tukes and trumpeter Victor Garcia. And Chicago’s own Big Shoulders Brass Band be on hand to lead a New Orleans-style second line parade across the grounds at the fest, followed by a short set of music.

WDCB will be there in force, with popular deejays including Bruce Oscar, Leslie Keros and Jay Greene on hand to emcee the show.
