Mike Fleischer Tribute

Long-time WDCB friend and volunteer, Mike Fleischer, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2004, while attending his son's wedding in the Virgin Islands.  For fifteen years, Mike hosted Treasures from the Isles, a Celtic music program.  At 67, Mike was also a lifelong learner at C.O.D., and a current C.O.D. student.  He was due to receive his certificate in June, 2004 through the Travel/Tourism Program. A tribute was broadcast on Monday, May 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. (the usual time for Treasures from the Isles) on 90.9fm WDCB.  Also on May 24, the College Of DuPage flag was lowered to half-staff in Mike's memory. A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 12 at DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church in Naperville.  It was attended by many, many family, friends and colleagues.

Myron P. ''Mike'' Fleischer, 67, of Downers Grove, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004, in U.S. Virgin Islands after attending his son's wedding. Host since 1990 of Celtic music show on WDCB radio, former executive of Flying Fish and Folk Era records, longtime promoter of folk music in Chicago and U.S. Served in Navy during Korean and Vietnam Wars and on USS Yorktown. Alum of Hyde Park H.S., U. of Chicago, U. of Fla. Loving husband of Mary Ellen Heelan; father of Beth (Matt) Connors and David (Liz Rogers) Fleischer. Survived by wife's children, Jay (Imke), Daniel (Marcia) and Jill; aunt, Louise Fleisher; cousins, Gene Fleisher and Joan Rebollar; five grandchildren.
