What's new on WDCB? ...with Paul Abella
Here are three jazz discs that we’re spinning this week...
The Christian McBride Big Band - For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver (Mack Avenue)
Christian McBride has brought his big band out to play on a tribute to the great albums made by Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery, and arranged by Oliver Nelson. Mark Whitfield is on the guitar, Joey DeFrancesco is playing the B-3, and Christian McBride is doing the arranging. They run through a few of the classics from those Jimmy and Wes albums, but they also get to some original material as well.
Gregory Dudzienski Quartet - Beautiful Moments (OA2/Origin)
Chicago saxophonist Gregory Dudzienski leads a great local quartet (rounded out by Chris White on piano, Kelly Sill on bass and Jeff Stitely on drums), through a program of mellow and very well played originals.
Kandace Spring - The Women Who Raised Me (Blue Note)
Pianist, keyboardist and vocalist Kandace Springs recently released an album that’s been getting a lot of love from us. It’s a tribute to the women who shaped her artistic vision, from Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae to Sade and Dusty Springfield.
