Miles Davis Weekend on WDCB!

May 19th, 2020

WDCB will again celebrate the May 26th birthday of jazz legend Miles Davis (1926-1991) throughout our jazz programming hours during the holiday weekend.  A brilliant trumpeter, musical trendsetter and icon of “cool”, Miles was also an Illinois native...and his music never goes out of style!

We'll celebrate throughout the weekend with wall-to-wall Miles during 'DCB Jazz with Paul Abella on Saturday (7-10am) and Dona Mullen on Sunday (9am – Noon) as well as non-stop Miles all day long with Matthew Hermes, Dona Mullen, Paul Abella, Leslie Keros & Dan Bindert during 'DCB Jazz on Memorial Day. We'll also spin some more Miles for you on his actual birthday, Tuesday the 26th.

Of special note are some Miles Davis radio documentary features that we'll offer to highlight particular elements of his artistry and stylistic development:

Sunday night, Midnight - 1am: "Miles Davis: Kind of Blue" - an in-depth look at the making of Miles' 1959 modal masterpiece.
Monday, 2-4pm: "Miles Davis, parts 1&2." Two hours of Miles Davis history from the "Jazz Profiles" series hosted by the late Nancy Wilson.
Monday, 6-7pm: "Miles Davis: Bitches Brew" - a look at the creation of Miles' groundbreaking fusion classic.
