WDCB Live Broadcasts from 39th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival

August 15th, 2017

For the first time since 2001, radio listeners across Chicagoland will hear live coverage from the main stage of the Chicago Jazz Festival…and it’s happening right here on WDCB! Working together in partnership with our friends at the WFMT Radio Network and Choose Chicago, WDCB will broadcast three live sets direct from the Jay Pritkzer Pavilion in Millennium Park - one set each the first three nights of the festival.

Here’s WDCB’s Chicago Jazz Festival” radio schedule (broadcasts begin 10 minutes before each set):

Thursday, August 31, 6:30 – 7:30pm: “George Freeman 90th Birthday Celebration” with the George Freeman/Mike Allemana Quartet

Friday, September 1, 7:10 – 8:10pm: “Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio” (pictured right)

Saturday, September 2, 8:30 – 9:30pm: “Ellabration! 100 Years of Ella Fitzgerald” featuring the Brad Williams Trio, Sheila Jordan, Dee Alexander, Frieda Lee, Spider Saloff and Paul Marinaro.

WDCB’s exclusive local broadcasts will be co-hosted by WDCB host Dan Bindert and WFMT Radio Network announcers Dee Alexander, Neil Tesser and Dave Schwan.

A favorite Labor Day weekend tradition, the free admission Chicago Jazz Festival is August 31–September 3, at Millennium Park and the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington St.) showcasing live performances by Chicago artists alongside some of the greatest names from around the world on multiple stages. The 39th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival is produced by DCASE (Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events) and programmed by the Jazz Institute of Chicago.
