Donate as an "Early Bird" to our Fall Pledge Drive, and receive a special thank you gift CD!

September 26th, 2014

We have a goal of $150,000 to reach during our Fall Pledge Drive. Your pre-drive contribution will give us a head start on hitting this goal and possibly allow us to finish early. We are hugely appreciative of our early contributors, and to show you, we have a very special “Early Bird” thank you gift for everyone who contributes $100 (or more) through and including the drive's first day. You can choose to receive the Dizzy Gillespie/Charlie Parker recording 'Town Hall, New York City, June 22, 1945'.

Released on CD by the jazz collector’s label Uptown Records, this CD documents 40-plus minutes of bebop as it was being created. The tracks include bebop classics like “Groovin’ High,” “A Night in Tunisia” and a super-hot rendition of "Salt Peanuts." Parker and Gillespie are backed by pianist Al Haig, bassist Curley Russell and drummer Max Roach – with additional guest appearances by saxophonist Don Byas and drummer Sid Catlett. This is an historic recording no jazz aficionado should be without. The CD includes extensive liner notes – 30 pages of them – documenting the original 1945 concert through photos, interviews, and newspaper clippings, as well as the story of how the original tapes came to be lost…and found 60 years later.

On behalf of all of us at here, thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do to keep the music coming out of WDCB's horn! Your support always tells us we’re doing the right thing.
