WDCB to broadcast three days of the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival!

April 20th, 2016

For the third straight year, WDCB, 90.9FM and WDCB.org will bring Chicago listeners live coverage from three days of the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Through a partnership with New Orleans community radio station WWOZ, WDCB is again marking the beginning of the summer jazz festival season with several hours of music on each of three days - April 22, April 28 and April 29 - direct from the historic Fair Grounds Race Course festival site in New Orleans.

The lineup includes national stars as well as a sampling of the rich, local scene from New Orleans. The highlights of WDCB’s broadcast schedule include jazz pianist Geri Allen’s “Erroll Garner Project,” early jazz revivalist band “Tuba Skinny,” zydeco accordionist Geno Delafose and the hip funk of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings.

“The live broadcast captures a bit of the excitement of that great festival,” says WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert. “It’s jazz, both modern and traditional, but like that festival, it’s more than just jazz. There’s also some blues, zydeco and funk too. With such a deep history of musical links between Chicago and New Orleans, it’s a great way to renew this age old relationship for the Chicago radio audience. So many die hard music fans in Chicago make trips to New Orleans for festivals, it’s a natural for us to offer the broadcast.”

WDCB’s broadcasts of selected jazzfest sets will take place between 11am and 7pm on each of the three days the station is carrying. The festival broadcast lineup is still being finalized by producers in New Orleans. Listen to WDCB and check the “WDCB Jazz” facebook page and twitter feed for all the details as the festival broadcast dates approach.
