The lessons of Dr. King are shared across cultures and generations, and echoes of his message continue to inspire the global community. Our tribute concert notes this universal connection, from the American south to the plains of Africa, the Pacific islands and here in Chicago, where Florence Price was the first African-American woman composer to have a work performed by a major orchestra. A cherished Chicago Sinfonietta tradition continues in grand fashion as we honor the life and work of the American civil rights leader. We’re joined by Metropolitan Opera clarinetist and South Side native Anthony McGill, who accompanied Yo-Yo Ma at the President Obama’s inauguration in 2009. Noted bass/baritone Eric Owens makes his conducting debut and the wonderful Mosaic Choir contributes an international selection of songs of praise.
