Jazz’s most celebrated collaborations, Chick Corea (piano) and Gary Burton (vibraphone) have performed together every year for the last forty. Their new album, Hot House explores their unique take on standards by composers from Kurt Weill and Antonio Carlos Jobim to Thelonious Monk and Lennon and McCartney. The multiple Grammy-winning duo also adds the Harlem String Quartet, expanding their legendary chamber-jazz repertoire on Chick’s composition Mozart Goes Dancing and other classic Chick and Gary tunes. An NEA Jazz Master, 18-time Grammy winner, prolific composer and undisputed keyboard virtuoso, Chick Corea has attained living legend status after four decades of unparalleled creativity and an artistic output that is simply staggering. Many of his compositions are considered jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis’ band in the 1960s, he participated in the birth of the electric jazz fusion movement and continued his success with the formation of jazz super-groups, Return to Forever and the Elektric Band. Gary Burton is a true original on the vibraphone. Burton developed a remarkable pianistic style with a four-mallet technique that brought the vibes into a new era following the swinging contributions of such two-mallet pioneers as Lionel Hampton and Milt Jackson. This approach caused Burton to be heralded as an innovator and his sound and technique became widely imitated.
