The Arts Section 04/21/19

April 21st, 2019

On this edition of The Arts Section, host Gary ZIdek sits down with Chicago DCASE Commissioner Mark Kelly to talk about the city’s new Mural Registry. The publicly accessible database will help protect and promote Chicago murals. We’ll get ready for Independent Book Store Day with a trip to one of the Chicago-area’s oldest bookshops, Gary takes you inside the Book Stall in downtown Winnetka for a look at the realities of operating a book store in today’s climate, plus some spring reading recommendations.  The Dueling Critics, Kerry Reid and Jonathan Abarbanel, will join me to review the Chicago premiere of the new play CAMBODIAN ROCK BAND. Later, we’ll revisit a piece on a PBS documentary titled the JAZZ AMBASSADORS that just won a Peabody Award. Speaking of film, Gary reviews the new movie TEEN SPIRIT. All that plus, the weekly Arts Section calendar is coming up.
